Emma's Halloween Costume... Miss Raggedy Ann! This was actually a dress that I wore to church when I was little. We found it and thought it would make a great Raggedy Ann costume. We curled and pinned Emma's hair up and then painted it red. She loved it. We tried to even get some face paint on Dot's but she didn't want to have anything to do with it. She decided she wanted to be a fireman instead. Oh, and Dottie's dress was my little sisters dress back in the day! We went to a Halloween Carnival that our church was putting on.

pumpkin patch again!
For Emma's preschool we went to the pumpkin patch again! Only this time it was just me with the girls! It was fun!
I tried to get a cute pic with the girls next to pumpkins but all dottie wanted to do was sit on them.

This was them heading out to find a pumpkin.

And on the wagon ride back to the barn!

mmm mmm GOOD!
Apple fritters anyone? We found a couple of recipe's and decided to give it a shot. We made two different kinds. One you slice up the apple dipped that in batter and fried it and the other chopped up apples in the batter and fried that up! They were both very tasty! Jordan preferred the sliced apple and I liked the chopped apple but we both agree they tasted better fresh and warm.
Dutch Apple Fritters
6 large cooking apples
1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 cup milk
Oil for deep frying
Powder Sugar
1) Peel the apples and remove the cores. Cut into 1/3"-think slices.
2) combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
3)Add the beaten egg and milk to the flour mixture and mix well to remove any lumps.
4)Pour the cooking oil into a deep frying pan to a depth of 1/2". Heat the oil. Then dip the apple slices into the batter and deep-fry until golden on one side. Flip and fry until golden brown on the other side as well. Drain on paper towels.
5) Sprinkle the fried apples with confectioner's sugar.
Apple Fritters
Serve apple fritter recipe with syrup or sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar.
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup finely chopped apple
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar, sifted
Sift together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add milk and egg; beat until batter is smooth. Fold in chopped apple. Drop by teaspoonfuls into deep hot oil-- about 370 degrees and at least 2 1/2 to 3 inches deep -- and fry for about 2 to 3 minutes, until nicely browned. Drain well on paper towels then roll in confectioners' sugar while still warm. Serve as is or warm, with syrup , if desired.
(we also tossed the apples with cinnamon and sugar before we put them in the batter on this one)

Pumpkin patch!
Well we had a great weekend going to all the pumpkin patches we could find! Jordan had this weekend off so we thought we should take advantage of it and it was pretty decent weather. (although the pictures don't look like we had good weather) The first one we went to on Friday served up some yummy fresh apple cider and apple cider donuts! Then Emma had a birthday party on Saturday at one that had lots of rides. Then the last one we went to we finally got our pumpkins. For some reason we didn't get any pictures with pumpkins. I think our camera batteries gave out by then!
Dottie kept wanting to give this scarecrow a hug!

Sad Day!
I guess this happened Friday. I was changing Dottie's diaper and I felt a pinch on my ring finger where my wedding ring is. When I was done with the diaper I went to wash my hands and I felt the pinch again.. So I look at my ring and it was bent. Weird! Because there was nothing I did to make it bent like it was. It had bent in towards my finger and cracked so that there was a piece of metal digging into my skin. So I start to wiggle it around and now my finger is starting to swell up because of the metal cutting into my skin so I try to get the ring off.. but it hurt so bad and my finger was getting bigger and bigger. So then I just left it alone and
waited for Jordan to get home. When Jordan got home he took one look at it and couldn't believe it. He said he thought it might have happened because when it was sized they must have not cured the metal all the way and it had some stresses in it and it finally gave in. (or something like that he explained it much better) Anyways.. so our choices to this point are cut it off or maybe wait and see if the swelling goes down and try and get it off again. So this is my WEDDING RING I really don't want to cut it off but it's pinching my skin. We decide to wait till Saturday morning and my finger was still huge! I decided to have him cut it off. We had called the jewelers and they said it still might be fixable if we cut it off so we just did it. Jordan makes the cut and the piece that was digging in my skin, bent in even more (which proved Jordan's theory of the stressed metal) anyways.. the ring is off now and in 3 pieces. I am not sure that it will be fixable. Here are some pics. Jordan didn't want me to blog about it because he said it just showed everybody what a cheap ring he bought! HA.. I am the one that picked it out!

This is my swollen finger and the scratches going around my finger are from me trying to get it off the first time while having metal dig into my skin!!!
